Since it is summertime, I thought I would recommend a beach read. For me, Belong to Me is smart chck-lit at its witty best. The plot is beautiful with realistic and lovable characters intertwined to create a web of belonging and trust that we can all relate to. You will be surprised at who you are rooting for by the end. This is a quick read that is hard to put down, so I hope your summer has a few relaxing days mixed into all the crazy! Warning: some language.
Goodreads.com summary: A devoted city dweller, Cornelia Brown surprised no one more than herself when she was gripped by the sudden, inescapable desire to leave urban life behind and head for an idyllic suburb. Though she knows she and her beloved husband, Teo, have made the right move, she approaches her new life with trepidation and struggles to forge friendships in her new home. Cornelia’s mettle is quickly tested by judgmental neighbor Piper Truitt. Perfectly manicured, impeccably dressed, and possessing impossible standards, Piper is the embodiment of everything Cornelia feared she would find in suburbia. A saving grace soon appears in the form of Lake. Over a shared love of literature and old movies, Cornelia develops an instant bond with this warm yet elusive woman who has also recently arrived in town, ostensibly to send her perceptive and brilliant son, Dev, to a school for the gifted. As their individual stories unfold, the women become entangled in a web of trust, betrayal, love, and loss that challenges them in ways they never imagined, and that ultimately teaches them what it means for one human being to belong to another.
Brooke! I have loved taking a little bit of time browsing your new blog–finally. It's taken me forever to do so. You make me itch for the midwest! Oh, how I have missed it. Thanks to you, I have mentally noted more books-to-read for the book group I am in charge of out here. Keep up your reviews for Bookworm Wednesday…love 'em.
Fantastic blog! XO.
Britta, you are so kind! Thanks for taking a look. Hope you love the books as much as I did. Hoping to make it to the Northwest again sometime. We love seeing your cute family on your Christmas card each year!
