One of the best things about living in or near Ann Arbor is the access to such great family cultural experiences! Our family has attended 2 productions by Young People’s Theater and would highly recommend them!
We went expecting “kids putting on a play,” but boy were we wrong. While all the actors and actresses are 18 and under it is a completely professional experience. We were absolutely wowed by the voices, costumes, staging and execution. My boys were enthralled as they watched kids their own age pulling off something so exciting and dramatic. We took our boys ages 5-10 and it was a great experience both times.
In November they are putting on the show ANNIE in the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre on the University of Michigan Campus. Most of the seats in that theater are good ones, but the show may sell out, so grab your tickets early!

The show dates are: November 21st-24th. One thing I was surprised about was that the shows are full length, so if you go to an evening performance, make sure your kids get a nap or a rest before you go. The matinee is always my favorite because no on is tired or spent by the time we get there. People generally wear nice casual clothes but some come dressed up to make it a more formal evening. Bring a few extra dollars for some treats too. For kids, every show is better with a little candy in their pocket!
