One of the best places to take kids between the ages of 3 and 8 on a cold, wintery day, is Jungle Java in Ann Arbor. We love that it always feels clean and well taken care of (even the bathrooms), there is plenty of seating for adults, and free wifi if you need to get a little work done. They also have some really great food options that are not too pricey if you decide to stay awhile, which my kids were always happy to do!

The downside to Jungle Java is that if your child is especially young and does not have older siblings, you may end up needing to crawl through tunnels and go down slides with him or her. This is often not a problem, but just be aware that a toddler will not be able to traverse the terrain alone, though there is a separate toddler area for those young enough not to want to climb and slide. The other downside is that kids tend to outgrow it by the time they are 9 or 10, unless they are coming to help a sibling and understand it is a playground mostly for younger children.
Beware that on days off of school and Saturdays you will find it pretty busy. If you choose to go on a weekday afternoon, it will be pretty open. It is a place that can be crowded and still fun though. We’ve been to lots of birthday parties at Jungle Java and they are always well run and staffed and go extremely smoothly. One note, once your child is there for a birthday party, they can stay as long as they would like, so if you want to plan on spending the rest of the afternoon there with your other kids, it’s a great option (however, no re-entry).
