I love books that force me to re-think the way I do things with my children and make me want to up my game. NurtureShock was just that. It turns many of our much beloved ways of parenting upside down and allows the reader explore new ways of thinking. The book is full of studies and insights (I am a sucker for experiments and proof when it comes to self-help) written in a pleasurable and addictive way. I couldn’t wait to read chapter after chapter. It forced me to reconsider the way I praise my kids, how I teach them to tell the truth, how much sleep they get and much more. Highly recommended.

NurtureShock is a groundbreaking collaboration between award-winning science journalists Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman. They argue that when it comes to children, we’ve mistaken good intentions for good ideas. With impeccable storytelling and razor-sharp analysis, they demonstrate that many of modern society’s strategies for nurturing children are in fact backfiring–because key twists in the science have been overlooked.
Nothing like a parenting manual, the authors’ work is an insightful exploration of themes and issues that transcend children’s (and adults’) lives.

I read this (by your recommendation!) over a year ago. Then I made my husband read it. Then I bought it. It's really a fantastic one.
