I read this short, young adult novel while on vacation and it lived up to all the hype. The writing was quick, witty and intelligent and the dialogue was impressive. The story was extremely well done and even the turquoise waters of the Caribbean couldn’t call me away from my book! There were a few far fetched plot lines that emphasized the fact that the story was young adult fiction, don’t let it bother you! The author believes that fictional stories matter, as do I.
I found myself bawling in the airport as I turned the last page because I had become so attached to the characters and the story. This book gives you so much to think about as you evaluate what life/death/God/friendship/family and love mean. I finished it in only a day or two. I would recommend it for any adult, but pick it up before you let your son or daughter read it to make sure it jives with your values.
