Looking for a fun breakfast spot to take the family this weekend with a real home-style taste and feel? Give The Bomber a try.

Insider Info.

Look around. This is a fantastic place to take the kids or visitors because they can spend their down time checking out all the model airplanes hanging from the ceiling and war memorabilia covering the walls. You can read about its fun history here. It was fun to see Veterans there enjoying a Saturday breakfast together and regulars chatting it up with friends and owners. There was a real community feel and I love that.

Get cozy. There are booths along the edge of the restaurant if you get lucky; if not, you will get a chance to make new friends as the center of the restaurant is full of long tables where anyone can have a seat.

Come hungry. If you are ready to indulge or want to feed your whole family with one meal, try The Bomber Breakfast which was featured on the Food Network and comes with 4 eggs, a pound of potatoes and a pound of meat ($10.25). Mmmmmm.

Think hearty. The diners at my table were all especially pleased with their Country Skillet (comes in two sizes $6.75 full or $5.25 half). It’s a good sized bowl layered with scrambled eggs, ground sausage, hash browns, and country gravy, topped with cheddar cheese. Might stop your heart for a minute, but might be worth it.

Get a biscuit. Often the “side of toast” is nothing to be excited about but don’t ignore it at The Bomber! You have a myriad of choices including a biscuit or English muffin.

Try something healthy. I ordered the Nature Lover’s Pancake with my Veggie Omelette and it was delicious! I would just order the pancakes next time they were so good (my omelette was good too, but they used canned mushrooms which are not my fave…otherwise it was full of fresh veggies and cheese, and was cooked well, so I would have really enjoyed it minus the mushrooms). The Pancakes are filled with a generous amount of blueberries, raspberries and pecans or sunflower seeds and they were fantastic. (full order $7.50, two pancakes $5.75, one pancake $3.50)

Get crazy. They serve Cap’n Crunch French Toast…while it sounds strange, it is a big hit.

Share, share, share. These breakfast portions are extremely hearty, so if you are going with kids, it’s ideal to order a few items and share since there is not a kids’ menu. There are options to order sides like 1 egg and toast ($2.75) or a side of 5 strips of bacon ($3.25) to supplement the full offerings. There is plenty for kids to enjoy!

If you go.

Address. 306 East Michigan Ave. Ypsilanti, MI

Parking. The Bomber gets busy on a Saturday morning, but I found parking right on Michigan Ave. There is also a lot behind the restaurant.

Hours. Open daily 7am-3pm for breakfast and lunch.

Menu.

Groups. They can accommodate large parties.

Service. Our server was crazy busy but really amazing as was our busser. 5 stars for both of them.

Style. If you are looking for a new-wave, hipster restaurant, this is not it; but you if want a diner-style throw back that serves good, hearty breakfasts and kid-friendly fare with some fun twists, you will be pleased.
